The hard skills
- Experience, great references, well trained, constantly updating their skill set and who fully understand the products and scope of the project. Read the 8 Questions you need to ask to help you determine the level of skill and experience from a flooring contractor.
- An ability to understand technical detail and drawings and to problem solve.
- Good up to date product knowledge.
- An understanding of screed assessment including analysis of, and solutions to, the following questions:
- Is the screed sufficiently dry?
- Is the screed sufficiently strong or hard enough?
- Is the screed smooth & level?
- Registration with FITA.
- Constant and experienced on-site supervision of the installation team.
- For vinyl flooring, excellent welding and coving skills
- For LVTs, excellent knowledge about adhesive use and pattern lay-out.
- Use of the correct tools.
- Robust post-installation service.
- A good understanding of PU vs PUR maintenance regime.
The soft skills
